perros y burros

dogs and donkeys --
they specialize in hot dogs and burritos.

and flavored beer?

without fail,
whenever rcg gets juice,
he gets maracuya,
so he got maracuya beer.
and i got tamarindo flavor.

creep city.

neveria roxy

just because i have moved to mexico
doesn't mean i have given up my intense love of ice cream.

in fact, there is a super cool ice cream shop
a couple of blocks from my house --
the neveria roxy.

it has traditional mexican style nieves and helados --
nieves are kind of like sorbet
while helados is more like ice cream.

i tried tutti frutti on my first visit --
um,
not amazing.

in fact,
i'm pretty sure it was just vanilla ice cream
with bits of dried fruit in it.

now the vanilla was really good,
but still.

so i had to go back.

on my second visit i got the limon nieves.

delicious.

i will be going back.

paletas con chile

this summer i bought this amazing tamarind lollipop in oaxaca city.

and then i could never find it again.

and i looked.
everywhere.

i even took a picture of it
so that in every candy shop that i passed
i could look more effectively.

no luck.

until rcg took me to buy candy for my birthday.

and we found tons of flavors.

i had one the other day.
and it was just like i remembered.

the lollipop is covered,
like, seriously covered,
in chile.

 it takes tons
and tons
and tons
of licks to get all of the chile off.

and then you get delicious fruity goodness.

and for the whole rest of the lollipop
you have the added bonus of being able
to continue to dip your lollipop in the chile.

so the whole lollipop experience is
one nose sniffing,
sinus clearing,
seriously delicious
good time.

thanks rcg for finding me my lollipop.
:)

jugos

whenever i go the a grocery store alone
i always end up with some weird stuff.

this last time is,
obviously,
no different.

(i did, however, control myself a little.
i wanted to get these tamarind, chile, and salt fruit roll up things.
delicious.
but i still have tons of candy from my birthday.
so it seemed like a little overkill.
whateverz.
i'm coming for you next time, fruit roll ups.)

this time i just bought juice:

um.
awesome.

guanabana --
totally great.

i can't really explain it,
just trust me,
it's phenomenal.

guayaba --
(aka. guava)
is also great.

eating guava is weird,
something about the texture just throws me off
but the flavor is totally growing on me.

it's pretty sweet,
but the smell is really what gets you --
it's so fresh and happy.

i totally dig it.

tamarindo --
that kind of tastes like grape juice.
or totally generic fruit punch.

not like all of the amazing candies i've been eating.

but definitely worth a try.

and the baby food juice is because why not?
plus, it also kind of tastes like the tamarind juice.
weird.

it's 70 and christmas time?? love it.

last weekend
rcg and i headed to el centro
to see the ron mueck and marilyn manson exhibits.
however,
when we pushed our way out of the subway
we were confronted with a mexican pepsi christmas.

and it is even more spectacular at night.

out
of
control.
