snack box disaster time

so back in april i lived like a baller
in business class on my way to prague.

maybe you remember?
(if not, you can read all about it here:
I really was a rockstar.)

flights to europe are great though --
even if you aren't in business class.
you get free booze, good food, and a blanket.

not so on domestic flights.

they flippin' suck.
no food, no entertainment, no blankets.

nothing.

death.

obviously the flight home from mexico yesterday was no different.
first, my flight was delayed by some imaginary tropical storm.
second, i had to fly into newark.
gross.
and third, i was hungry.
like chew off your own arm hungry.

disaster.

i left puerto escondido at 10am.
rode a bus for 2 hours.
waited at the airport for 6 hours.
flew 3 hours to houston.
where i had 1.5 hours to go through immigration and customs,
and walk the 17 miles across the airport.
just to get on another 3 hour flight to newark landing at 1am.

disaster.

sure continental gave me a $8 voucher.
which I definitely used in huatulco.

but what about the rest of my 12 hours of journey?
am I just supposed to starve?

awesome.

so i gave in and got a snack box.
an $8 snack box.

yeah, i got the most expensive one.
because like the flight attendant so aptly pointed out,
it had olives and hummus in it.

done.

and look at how flippin' fancy that is.

 adorable.

my only complaint now is why would you charge me for this?

why wouldn't you just add a $10 fee onto the price of each ticket
and give me some freakin' food?

i mean really, who wouldn't pay that for the convenience of eating?

i'm just saying.
it's a great idea.

zinka!!

anyone who knows me
knows that I turn lobster within a matter of hours
if i'm out in the sun.

so my childhood was filled with more sunscreen
than most people can imagine.

and it was filled with
zinka!

me and my brother's cheeks and noses
were constantly covered with some neon color or another.

i thought those days were gone.
no more hot pink cheeks.
no more neon green nose.

bummer city.

not so.

mexico,
mexico is the answer.

they have every color of zinka imaginable
(including clear. lame)
in the small surf town of puerto escondido.

love.

callo de margarita

so it's not a creepy fruit
(which we all know i'm totally in love with)
but it is totally creepy.

for days we watched this man wade into the ocean
and return with some sea creature in the biggest shells i've ever seen.

and people were buying them like hot cakes.

obviously i would need to try them.

and obviously by the time I gathered my courage
and figured out how to order them in spanish
he was sold out.

obviously.

(and obviously i still had no idea what these creatures really were.)

did that stop me?
has it ever?

so i came back the next day.
and ordered them.
and ate them.

well,
i tried.

but those bad boys were definitely moving.
um, gross.
and, obviously, totally awesome.

it wasn't until i was almost halfway done
that figured out i was eating a flippin scallop.

mi primero clase de español

so i've been told to update this sucker.

(you aren't pleased with my long overdue czech updates?
lame.)

well, you will have to deal with gross looking posts then.

at least until i can get to a computer and fix them
and add pictures.

tomorrow will mark the end of week 2 in mexico.

hollar.

jb has left,
so the fun part is over,
(more will be said about this,
but you really need to see the pictures to get it.)
now it is time for learning spanish with lp.

we had our first class this morning.
and i think i did ok.

(i'm pretty convinced i sound like an idiot 95% of the time.)

i knew a lot of what she taught us
(how to conjugate verbs)
but having someone explain it to you
instead of trusting rosetta stone,
just cause it's rosetta stone,
is nice.

and we have homework.

adorable.

we have to write about a friend.
making it as long as possible
so we can practice all of the fun verbs we learned today.

i'm kind of excited
and kind of totally flippin' nervous.

disaster?
tal vez.

ps. you should assume any and all spanish i attempt to write here
is completely wrong.

i am a mess,
perpetually,
as we all know all too well.

pps. we are currently in puerto escondido
(the 2nd place in the world for surfing)
and the waves here are freaking crazy huge.
disaster?
100 per cent.

yikes.
